Records, 1956-1981 (bulk 1965-1981) include correspondence of Robert W. Corrigan, David J. Oppenheim and Theodore Hoffman, as well as annual reports, budgets, financial records, minutes, curricula, scripts, newsletters, playbills, transcripts, project calendars and press clippings. The collection also contains material related to David J. Oppenheim's career at CBS and the Public Broadcasting laboratory before he he came to NYU; these papers include material related to projects involving Herman Levin and Stella Adler, and a production about Stravinsky. Some memos and other material relate to the Associate Dean of the School of the Arts, Michael J. Miller. There is also a folder of material dealing with a convocation in honor of Frederick Loewe.

The Tisch School of the Arts (TSOA) at NYU was founded as a school of performing and media arts in 1965. Alumni include Spike Lee, Oliver Stone, Amy Heckerling, and Ang Lee. The first Dean of the school was Robert W. Corrigan, the second David J. Oppenheim. Theodore Hoffman, who came to NYU in 1965 to help establish the Theatre Program, was also an important figure in the early history of the school.
